Gooderham Ice Rink:

In the fall of 2008, the Gooderham Community Action Group sponsored the idea of building a skating ring in Gooderham. It was officially opened on Family Day of 2009 and is located in the tennis court area, across from the Highlands East Station 3 Firehall.

The ice surface is maintained by Brian Horner, Kevin Murphy and myself, along with the full support of Bill Wingrove, Fire Chief for Highlands East. It is important to note that without the support of the Fire Department, the rink would not be possible. This is not to forget people like John Glass and Scott Crichton who contributed greatly to the construction and maintenance of the rink boards.

In all three of its operating winters, the rink has been well used. The municipality has recognized its value to the greater Gooderham community in the 2011 municipal budget. Provisions have been made for a combined change room and equipment storage container for Gooderham that is similar to what is already in place at the Bicroft Ice Rink. There is also provision for limited assistance in snow clearance, as well as, minor pavement and boards repairs.

It looks like 2011/2012 will be another excellent operating year, if the weather cooperates!
