Earlier this spring, I got hold of afew of the older pictures of the greater Gooderham area, scanned them and started to restore their images. When I returned them to their owners, we spoke about the number of historial photographes that are available in the greater Gooderham and Glamorgan area.
On June 11th and 12th, Highlands East hosted a Doors Open Ontario event. The Robert McCausland Memorial Community Centre was one of the venues, where a large selection of historal items were put on display. Over the weekend, several people mentioned the need to keep this history for future generations to enjoy.
However, we realized that this was only a fraction of the items that are available. And, as we lose our seniors, we also lose much of our unique history. The challenge is to find a permanent home where these priceless treasures and their history can be preserved, in a more lasting way.
Currently, a group of around ten people have signed up to see if the project can move forward. If you are interested in preseving our local history, please let me know or contact Marilyn Billings at the Gooderham Library. We would like to have an initial meeting, before the end of the summer.
