Bonnie, Sherri and I have been active volunteers for over twenty-five years. We enjoy the feeling that comes from working within a group whose sole purpose is seeing other people enjoy the results of our efforts. Corny but true!
From 1988 to 1996, I became a Curling Instructor with Curl Canada and we managed the youth curling programs at the Annadale Curling Club and then the Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club.
In 1994, we were founders in the Greater Hamilton and Halton Junior Curling League and ran it until 2008, when it was taken over by HACA (Hamilton Area Curling Association).
In 1996, Bonnie, Sherri and I were volunteers at the World Curling Bonspiel in Hamilton.
In 2007, we worked with HACA and managed the statistics for the Tim Hortons Brier 50/50 Draw, which raised over $56,000 for youth curling in the greater Hamilton area.
In 2008, while living in Highlands East, we again worked with HACA to establish the Bob Martin Memorial Award at Mohawk College. It's an annual $500 bursary to a needy Mohawk student who is an active curler in the Hamilton area.
In 2008, I joined the fire fighter at Station 3 in Gooderham and continue as its Financial Officer.
In 2009, thanks to the generosity of the greater Gooderham people, the Gooderham Station 3 fire fighters raised over $19,000 during our 'Jaws of Life' project. This equipment is used to cut away vehicle parts so that trapped people can be removed from damaged vehicles.
From 2008 to 2010, we were involved with Gooderham Horseshoe Days.
In 2010, we gathered the sponsors and put together the advertizing section of the Gooderham Fire & Rescue Auxilliary Cook Book, which has raised over $2,000 for the auxilliary.
In 2010, Bonnie became a director in the Minden Health Care Auxilliary.
In 2011, we were involved with the Timbits Ontario Elementary School Curling Championships that were held in Minden.
